Meet Dr. Richard Resler, Jr.

I love meeting new people every day and seeing our adolescent patients transform throughout the duration of their orthodontic treatment. I enjoy the differences and unique challenges and situations that we address in each individual’s life and orthodontic care. I truly love learning; no day ever passes without me learning something new from our patients, and I do my very best to ensure that each and every patient has an enjoyable and engaging experience before, during, and after orthodontic treatment.

I essentially “grew up” within the practice of Resler Orthodontics and watched my father, Dr. Resler Sr., provide the highest level of individualized care for the families of the Saginaw community from the time that I was a young boy. I had various jobs in the office throughout my youth and young adulthood that taught me the foundations of orthodontics from a very early age, and I am extremely grateful for that experience and exposure that helped to ultimately prepare me for my career as an orthodontist today.

Education and Continuing Education

After graduating from Heritage High School in 1996, I attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 2000. I continued on to the Medical University of South Carolina, where I earned my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2004. My Master of Science degree and Certificate of Orthodontics were received at Temple University School of Dentistry in 2006. I exclusively practiced orthodontics for three years at Temple University and have been in private practice with Resler Orthodontics for over ten years.

Professional Memberships

I stay very active in continuing education in order to keep up to date on diagnosis and treatment procedures as well as emerging medical conditions and their treatments as related to orthodontics. Technology has dramatically changed the field of orthodontics over the last ten years, and staying current with this technology allows us to optimize treatment results and minimize treatment time and discomfort. Since so much of orthodontics is related to beauty and esthetics, it is imperative that we focus on continuing education in relation to the patient’s appearance as a whole rather than their teeth alone. I further my orthodontic education with memberships in the Schulman Study Group, the Progressive Study Club, and the Northern Michigan Orthodontic Study Club.

Professional Organizations

To aid in furthering my continuing education, I am also a member of the Temple University Orthodontic Alumni Association, the Medical University of South Carolina Alumni Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Association of Orthodontists, the Michigan Dental Association, the Saginaw Valley District Dental Society, and the Saginaw County Dental society. I have also been certified by the State of Michigan Board of Orthodontists.

In the Community

I am lucky to have grown up and to now live and work in a community that is made up of such great people. Our office sponsors local sports teams, and we are involved in multiple school related events and fundraisers, such as the Heritage Hawktion. We have supported the Saginaw Children’s Museum and the Children’s Zoo, and I have personally been a Special Olympics Special Smiles dental screener. I have held a position on the board of the Saginaw District Dental Society for five years. My wife and I also attend and support Hopevale Church.

Outside the Office

I am a proud native of Saginaw, Michigan, and, after having to leave the area to pursue my education, I returned to Saginaw with my wife and co-worker, Tracie. We have now lived here once again for over ten years. During that time, we have welcomed two wonderful boys into our family, Greyson and Easton, as well as one Portuguese Water Dog, Bear. I truly value my time at home with my wife and our two young sons. I also love all four of the beautiful seasons that we are so fortunate to experience here in the state of Michigan and thoroughly enjoy the different activities associated with each, especially biking, skiing, hunting, snowmobiling, boating, golfing, and visiting the many sites of my home-state.
